Relying on Google, or any one source of web traffic is simply a disaster waiting to happen. You should never rely on one sole source for anything, because if that source disappears, or does not work in the same way it did in the past, then your business will be in trouble. And this is what has happened for many people who solely relied on Google for their web traffic. Google changed the goalposts and many people?s income stopped instantly, because either their sites were de-indexed, or the sites they relied on for Google backlinks were de-indexed. Either way they were shot down. And so, it is necessary now more than ever to find places to get web traffic other than Google.
?1. Social Media
This is probably the most important way to get traffic to your site. Using social sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and now the newer Pinterest, are all acceptable and great ways of generating targeted and direct traffic to your site. Create an account for your web site and then outreach to people, and get them to follow you for you to directly market your products or services.
?2. Blogging
Use long tail keywords, and plenty of them, to try and capture people who are looking for solutions to their problem. Produce good quality content, which addresses their problem, and then lead them to the solution which will be your product or service.
?3. Curating
The internet is full of junk, right? Google is attempting to de-index sites producing junk. Why not give them a hand, and again create blog posts with long tail keywords in, and then add quality content to each blog post, and then form an opinion around it. Always link back to the site you got this great information from and cite it too. This will enhance your site as an authority in all search engines, not just Google. In effect, you are helping Google curate.
?4. Email Marketing
Hopefully you have already built up a list from when Google was easier to get on with. This list at present is probably one of the most valuable piece of online real estate you own. In fact, it?s probably more important than your site. This list contains visitors who are already interested in your site, and / or have already purchased from you. It?s far easier to get repeat custom than it is to get new customers.
?5. Forum Marketing
This can be a great and fun way to not only get visitors to your site, but also to generate ideas for content on it. Simply, you need to join a forum that accepts url?s in signatures and is closely related to your niche. Then begin to answer posts and people?s questions and problems in an informative way. You can then expand these points and create blog posts (and even look to curate to provide even better quality content).
As already said, you should never rely on one source for your traffic, especially one that is so volatile as Google. Things may settle down with Google eventually, but you should always be aiming to post quality content to your site and market it in many other areas away from the search engines. That way, if the worst happens, you still have other avenues of traffic coming to you.
