She lent her advice to the young singers on "The Voice" and racked up two wins at the recent Academy of Country Music Awards ceremony, but Kelly Clarkson is just getting started.

The singer will be hitting the road this summer on a co-headlining tour with the Fray on a tour that will also feature opening act Carolina Liar. The 30-plus date outing will kick off on July 21 in Ridgefield, Washington and wrap-up in Nashville on September 15. Clarkson will be touring in support of her album, Stronger, and the Fray are promoting their third effort, Scars & Stories.

Clarkson's fifth effort has been certified gold and spun off the hit singles "Mr. Know It All" and the title track, "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)," which mark her ninth and tenth top 10 hits. The latter also hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, giving Clarkson her third career #1 after "My Life Would Suck Without You" and "A Moment Like This."

In addition to mentoring as part of Team Blake on "The Voice," Clarkson will saddle up with Lionel Richie, Robin Thicke and Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles as one of the mentors and singing partners on the upcoming ABC reality singing show, "Duets." She's also prepping the third single from her album, "Dark Side."

Tickets for the tour will go on sale on April 20 at 10 a.m.

What is the umbrella under auto insurance

April 17th, 2012

Umbrella insurance, also referred to as a Personal Liability Umbrella policy, is a policy that provides additional liability insurance coverage over your vehicles, recreational vehicles, boats, home and more. An umbrella policy will protect you against gaps in coverage and are designed to protect you in the event you face a large liability claim because of damage or injuries you are found responsible of causing. Your umbrella rates will depend on how many underlying policies you are covering. Those with just a vehicle and a property insurance policy will pay less than those with recreational vehicles, boats, and more.

Science & the Public: March: American heat vs. global temps

March: American heat vs. global temps

Record U.S. warmth in March was not shared everywhere globally.

Web edition : Monday, April 16th, 2012

Even as global temperatures have been climbing throughout much of the past century, atypical warm and cool spells have seesawed regionally around the planet. March 2012 exemplified such exaggerated trends. Although the month set some 15,000 daily warming records in the United States, globally this past March was the coolest since 1999. The National Climatic Data Center reported these trend data April 16.

March?s planetary average of 13.2? Celsius still points to a steadily climbing planetary fever. That value was roughly 0.5 ?C higher than the 20th century March average. And seven of the eight warmest years on record have occurred since 2001, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration notes. The top 10: all since 1995.

The combined land-and-sea-surface average temperature for January through March 2012 was 0.39 ?C above the 20th century average. That matched 1991 as the 21st warmest such?quarter on record ? and the coolest since 1996.

Polar ice rallied somewhat this year. March?s Arctic sea ice cover was the largest for this month since 2008 (and only the ninth lowest since satellite records began in 1979). In Antarctica, sea ice during March was 16 percent higher than the average and fourth largest for the month since 1979.

All of that is small comfort for me today. Normally, this time of year the temperature peaks in Washington, D.C., at a balmy 19.4 ?C (67 ?F). But today?s forecast calls for a blistering 30? (or 86 ?F) outdoors. Even with shades drawn, the morning temperature in my sun-facing fourth floor office was distinctly uncomfortable. And without supplemental cooling (my A/C is out of service), the temp at my desk can be expected to exceed the outdoor heat by some 3? to 5?.

Tupac Takes Coachella Stage Via Hologram With Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg

The pair's historic set also included surprise guests Eminem, 50 Cent and Wiz Khalifa.

INDIO, California — Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg wowed Coachella's final night Sunday with a roster of guests way beyond what even the rumors could have predicted. Backed by a live band and unexpectedly artsy video screens, no less than Eminem, 50 Cent, Warren G and a hologram of Tupac graced the stage.

As if that wasn't enough, Wiz Khalifa also joined the West Coast hip-hop legends for the anthem of the weekend, "Young, Wild and Free," which had the crowd singing the chorus in unison: "So what we get drunk/ So what we smoke weed/ We're just having fun/ We don't care who sees/ So what we go out/ That's how it's supposed to be/ Living young and wild and free."

Kendrick Lamar — who performed an afternoon set on the main stage Friday — also joined the pair for "The Recipe," his new joint featuring Dre, who introduced him as "straight outta Compton."

After their own "The Next Episode" and "Deep Cover (187 on an Undercover Cop)," Dre and Snoop covered House of Pain's "Jump Around." The hardest moment of the night came when 50 Cent stormed the stage for "What Up Gangsta" with Tony Yayo by his side, segueing into "P.I.M.P." with tropical calypso steel drums and his 2003 breakthrough hit, "In Da Club."

Snoop paid homage to his late homey Nate Dogg, performing "Ain't No Fun" alongside Kurupt and Warren G as the screens displayed photos of Nate, Snoop and the rest of the Dogg Pound.

The appearance of the late Tupac in very realistic hologram form, which was amazing to some and creepy to others, brought "Hail Mary" and "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted."

Eminem even came out for "I Need a Doctor," a dubstep-flavored "Forgot About Dre" and "Till I Collapse."

Capping their historic set with "What's My Name?" and "Still D.R.E.," Dre and Snoop disappeared below the stage with the Good Doctor proclaiming to the adoring audience, "I wanna say thank you for the love for so many years."

Sunday's surprise guests didn't stop there though, as Rihanna joined Calvin Harris for her latest single, "Where Have You Been," and "We Found Love," and Rage Against the Machine spitter Zack de la Rocha lent his lyrics to DJ Shadow.

Earlier in the night, the main stage was handled by French electronic duo Justice and the much-anticipated At the Drive-In reunion. The influential post-hardcore band had heads banging to "Pattern Against User," "Lopsided," "Enfilade" and slowed it down a bit with the melodic "Napoleon Solo."

Elsewhere, the Sahara dance tent hosted Avicii, the Weeknd grooved a huge crowd at the Outdoor Stage as he sang the sun down with his soulful jams, and Florence and the Machine had the ladies lifted with the frontwoman's request that the "strong gentleman in the house" offer their shoulders for "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)."

In response to last year's event selling out — a week after the 2011 lineup was announced — the festival is experimenting with featuring the same artists for two consecutive three-day weekends: April 13-15 and April 20-22.

At Coachella's uncharacteristically cold and glooming first day Friday, the Black Keys and Swedish House Mafia kept fans warm. Saturday brought Radiohead, Bon Iver and David Guetta with Usher.

Different Types of Usage of Satellite Television System ...

Sky Digital "mini-dish"

Satellite television system has been used for some years and it has seen a lot of advancement in the purposes for which they can be utilized. Earlier satellite TV viewers used their dishes to discover different types of programming that was not meant for mass audiences. The dish and the receiving equipment facilitated the viewers to pick up foreign stations, live feeds between various broadcast stations, and a lot of other programs transmitted with the aid of satellites. In recent times most satellite TV customers receive their programming through a direct broadcast satellite provider, like DirecTV or Dish Network. The provider broadcasts the programs to the subscribers as packages. The provider aims to get to your television as many channels to your TV so as meet up to the competition with cable TV.

There are three primary types of satellite television usage: reception direct by the viewer, reception by local television partners, or reception by headends for allocation across terrestrial cable systems.

Direct to the viewer reception comprises of direct broadcast satellite or DBS and television receive-only or TVRO. Both of them are used for homes and businesses including hotels, etc.

Direct broadcast satellite, (DBS) also called ?Direct-To-Home? can also refer to the communications satellites themselves that bring DBS service or the actual television service. DBS systems are also known as ?mini-dish? systems. DBS uses the upper portion of the Ku band, as well as parts of the Ka band. Most of the DBS systems utilize the DVB-S standard for transmission. With Pay-TV services, the datastream is encrypted and needs proprietary reception equipment. While the primary reception technology is similar, the Pay-TV technology is proprietary, often comprising of a Conditional Access Module and smart card.

The term Television receive-only, or TVRO, came into use during the initial days of satellite television reception to distinguish it from commercial satellite television uplink and downlink operations. This was prior to the stage when there was a DTH satellite television broadcast industry. Satellite television channels at that time were proposed to be used by cable television networks rather than the home viewers. TVRO systems are proposed to receive analog and digital satellite feeds of both television and audio from both C-band and Ku-band transponders on FSS-type satellites. The higher frequency Ku-band systems tend to be Direct To Home systems and can use a smaller dish antenna because of the superior power transmissions and greater antenna gain.

Programming sources are merely the channels that facilitate television programming for broadcast. The provider does not generate original programming itself. The broadcast center is the central focus of the system. At the broadcast center, the TV provider obtains signals from different programming sources and sends a broadcast signal to satellites in geosynchronous orbit. The satellites receive the signals from the broadcast station and rebroadcast them to Earth. The viewers dish network catches the signal from the satellite and moves it on to the receiver in the viewer?s house. The receiver then processes the signal and passes it on to a TV.
